AKIKO'S STORY...

Daniel TJ || International Reporter || September 8, 2023 || On AKIKO'S STORY Updated 2024

Akiko is a young woman living in the city of Tokyo in 2024. She loves her job, working hard in marketing at a large advertising agency. But then, COVID-19 hit, and things got real bad.

Akiko's office switched to remote work just like almost every other company in the world. She wasn't sure what do since this was her first time in a global pandemic.

She missed hanging out with her co-workers.

However, after some time - she got use to it and use to being alone as well.

She didn't let the pandemic tarnish her work flow at all. She set up an office space in her apartment, with a desk, a chair, and a view that'd make anyone jealous.

She became a professional at all of the popular virtual tool. For example, video calls, chat applications, and projects she did online.

What was amazing was how Akiko and her team handled the teamwork, even though they were miles apart.

They kept the projects going, and bounced ideas back and forth. The bosses were happy about their productivity and how they made it work, no matter what.

As time went by, Akiko realized that remote work wasn't so bad at all. She could manage her time way better without having to drive into the office which took over an hour each way.

With the extra time, she got into cooking up Japanese dinners and even tried her hand at online art classes.

One day, Akiko got an email from her boss. The company was going with a mix of remote and face to face office work.

Akiko felt happy for the flexibility, but also kinda excited to see her co-workers again.

Since Akiko learned how to do remote work, her role was was solid in the company. As long as she kept hustling, showing her skills, and being adaptable, she was the golden child.

She realized that keeping her mind open and always learning were the secrets to thriving in this new work situation.

The pandemic became a reminder that change isn't all bad.

It's about rolling with it, finding new opportunities, and making your own path, no matter what life throws at you.
