AKIKO'S BLOG! Moving To Hawaii
Akiko W. - New client of TheJEGroup! - Moving To Hawaii
Day 1: My Nervous Beginnings
Today, I start my new blog on SavvyJapan-Today.com free! My move to Hawaii from Japan with my new Career Search Consultant at TheJEGroup!, I feel very nervous. Signing up for the service is like jumping into deep Hawaii sea water.
Sending my resume? Very scary! But my consultant Mr. Michael is very nice, so I feel a little better. We make a plan for interview practice, and I sign the contract.
It is exciting and scary! Oh, funny thing – I almost send a picture of my cat instead of my resume. Good I check first!
Day 2: My Hawaii Dreams
I can’t believe it – maybe I move to Hawaii! The idea of moving from Japan to Hawaii makes me very happy. I always want to live in a tropical place.
I imagine eating fresh poke bowls poke is like sushi in a bowl – so yummy! and learning to surf. I even look for hula dancing classes. Aloha, new adventures! Maybe I become a hula-surfing star!
Day 3: The Waiting Time
Now comes the hard part: waiting. My consultant is setting up interviews now, but this takes a few weeks or more.
Waiting is not easy for me. It feels like waiting for the next season of my favorite TV show. In the meantime, I practice English.
I hope my consultant has some magic trick to make it faster. I am ready to start this new part of my life – like, right now!
Day 4: I'm training for interviewing in English!
Today is my first day of interview training with Michael, and I am nervous. Interviewing in English is scary! My consultant says I will do great, but I am afraid I mix up words or sound silly.
We do a practice interview, and I make some mistakes, but it is not so bad. At the end, I even joke about my cat trying to join the video call. He don't understand me.
Day 5: Free English lessons!
After yesterday’s stress, I decide to take English lessons with Michael. He is a good teacher to get me through the interviews, and it helps already.
We practice common interview questions, and I learn useful phrases. Also, it is fun.
Michael is patient and has a good sense of humor, so learning is less stressful. I feel a bit more confident now. I am ready for the interviews!
Day 6: Why Hawaii?
I think a lot about why I want to move to Hawaii. Japan is my home, but I need a change. Hawaii’s relaxed lifestyle, beautiful beaches, and friendly people is best for me.
I want to know a new culture, try new foods, and learn hula and surfing. Escaping Japan’s too busy life is what I want.
Hawaii feels like a place where I can really relax and be myself. Also, I hear spam musubi is delicious!
Day 7: I have more question about the contract
Today, I have an online meeting with Michael who is my Career Search Consultant to discuss the contract again.
It is good to see everything clearly. We talk about visa sponsorship, and I feel good this move is the right choice.
I even joke about becoming a hula dancer in my free time, and my consultant laughs. It is nice to work with someone who understands my humor.
I will write more blog next week. I am thinking of taking more English classes for Hawaii.
Aloha to you!
Akiko :-)
