WHY DO PEOPLE WANT TO LIVE IN JAPAN?
Michael Briggs Staff Writer Tokyo, Japan
I see messages all the time about how people from around the world want to move to Japan.
These people in most cases have never been here. Japan.
Before I explain what I'm talking about, let me first explain that I am from America. And, I have lived in Japan about 26 years.
I am 100% American. I am not one of those guys who move to Japan to wear Japanese Mens Kimono's or to be The Last Samurai. I am and will always be American.
This is important to say because if I don't then people reading this will think that I turned Japanese and so I have a certain bias. I do not. Having said that, let's move on...
So why do people want to relocate to Japan without ever being here? The joke is on them.
I moved after visiting here. I lived and worked in Hawai'i and flew to Japan with my then girlfriend who was a Cabin Crew and at the time was able to fly to Japan free with her in a jump seat. The airline was Northwest Airlines. Now out of business. Because of me?
The first time I landed in Japan I was amazed at how clean everything was. I was amazed at how professional everyone who was working at the hotel, the stores, the gas stations, everywhere I went to the Japanese staff were so professional no matter what kind of a job they had. So yes. I was amazed.
After a few days, we flew back to Hawai'i. I did not want to live in Japan.
I loved Hawai'i and had no plan to move to Japan. Why? Hawai'i is the best place to live. Japan is clean, but that's no reason to move to another country.
Years went by, the girlfriend vanished. And I left Hawai'i and move back to the mainland to study internet marketing. Yeah! A long time ago! Internet marketing was big at the time.
After graduation, I decided to move to Japan.
Why? At the time Japan and America were the top dogs. Japans economy was amazing and America and Japan were in economic bonds and I wanted to be part of the success. So, moving to Japan and learning Japanese and working in a Japanese company and becoming a sort of Liaison between Japan and America was the plan.
That was then and this is now..
The reason I relocated to Japan was purely financial. Not because I wanted to live in a clean country. Not because I loved Anime. Not because I wanted a Japanese girlfriend. I was very practical. Not dreamy.
What I leaned over the 26 years I have lived here I have watched people move to Japan and leave Japan within a few months to a few years. Why? Because many people who relocate to Japan have the idea that Japan is Heaven.
Is Japan Heaven?
Japan can be Heaven if you have never been here and watch movies about Japan that make Japan look like Heaven.
People around the world think because they watched hours of Japanese movies or Anime, or Manga, or whatever ~ are now experts on Japan.
I have lived in Japan 26 years. I'm no expert on Japan.
Today I work as a Content Marketing Writer for businesses here in Japan and globally. I love my job because I meeting people that I would never get to meet as a private citizen. Actors, Political Leaders, Dancers, Financial Experts, Fashion Models, Other Writers... You get the point.
Friends here in Japan?
I have a few solid friends and a few drinking buds and many acquaintances ~ however making friends in Japan with Japanese nationals is difficult. Why? Well, call it Japanese culture, call it risky to be friends with Gaijins, or call it what ever you want. The reason is simple. Japanese people just do not want to mix.
What about getting a Japanese girlfriend?
I can go on and on about this subject. However, I will just ask: Why do you want a Japanese girlfriend?
You see, if you have a fetish for Asian girls is not a good reason to have a Japanese girlfriend. If on the other hand you meet a girl, you fall in love, and she just happens to be Japanese is a different story.
The problem is, some guys come to Japan to get a Japanese girlfriend. Fetish.
That's all I will say on that topic.
Next: How can I get a job in Japan with Visa Sponsorship?
Japan is a difficult place to get a job with a good salary. When I moved here 26 years ago, it was different. Now, there are many difficulties to obtain a real job with visa sponsorship. However if you wish to go a different route to get a job in Japan or just about any location worldwide with visa sponsorship, you might want to visit TheJEGroup!
They actually have an in-house data center and global connections to land you interviews to jobs with full visa sponsorship. And it's safer than sending your resume to fake job posts.
And lastly, can you get healthcare in Japan as a foreigner?
Yes, you can! All you need is a job and to sign up for healthcare and you're good to go.
I have Japanese healthcare and it includes dental too! That's a plus in my book.
Well, that's it for me today. If you have any questions about life Japan that is not sugar coated ~ contact me. I'm probably sitting at my desk looking out the window at the Ginza area winding if I'm going to eat a fat bit American Cheeseburger or Okonomiyaki? Decisions.
Have a great day everyone!
